Delaware Tech communications students tour IMAX theater

April 10, 2017

Delaware Tech Communications Department students recently had an opportunity to go behind the scenes of the Penn Cinema Riverfront's IMAX Theater in Wilmington March 13.

A group of 12 Introduction to Film students traveled to the theater, received a tour of the projection area and learned about the process of the large-screen format. After touring the facility, the students viewed a screening of "Kong: Skull Island" to witness the format firsthand.

"Having never been to an IMAX film, it was an amazing experience to see a film so larger than life," said communications student Marykate Bennett. "Going behind the scenes with the knowledgeable staff was very interesting and informative."

The trip is one the department offers annually to students."We try to make it to the IMAX screen each year, because it's the only screen of its kind in the state, and the format really features some of the most state-of-the-art technology when it comes to sound and picture quality," said Rob Rector, film instructor and chair of the Communications Department.
