I felt compelled to write in response to the recent article titled "New industries needed to keep young people in Sussex." The last sentence of the first paragraph says that 80 percent of Delaware Tech graduates leave Delaware after graduation.
I suspect that the author of the article might have meant "Delaware's tech graduates" instead of making that assertion about the state's community college.
In fact, at Delaware Tech, 97 percent of our students are Delawareans, and they remain in Delaware working for businesses statewide.
At Delaware Technical Community College, we are committed to providing a highly qualified workforce for our local employers.
A survey of our 2016 graduates revealed that 98 percent are employed or continuing their education, and 58 percent are doing both.
Our graduates are the foundation of Delaware's workforce. They are the nurses and allied health professionals who take care of you and your family.
They are the paramedics, police officers, and childcare providers who provide critical services your family needs. They are the energy, engineering, and IT professionals who contribute to a vibrant economy throughout the state.
We remain committed to our mission to provide affordable education that is relevant and responsive to our local labor market and community needs.
