Delmarva Christian hockey wins on Senior Day

Royals end season at 4-11
October 30, 2023

The Delmarva Christian field hockey team honored the Class of 2024 and ended its season with a 3-0 shutout of the Tome School at the Royals’ Georgetown campus.

Sophomore Haley Jones, junior Meg Yoder and senior Josie Peranteau each hit the back of the goal for a score.

Royals goalie Bella Marinelli stopped three shots. Tome keeper Kirena Little had one save.

“This group of young ladies put forth tremendous effort throughout the season despite the losses,” said Royals coach Alison Venables. “We had seven players brand new to the game, and four girls that were injured most of the season. However, the girls persevered, played short many games and never had substitutes. They never gave up. A coach couldn't ask for more.

“This was a season of growth – mentally and physically. The players and I had to learn to continue through frustrations of losses, lack of knowledge of the game and the physical demands of field hockey. The Royals field hockey team has many things to improve upon, but they have come a long way since August. The captains, Josie [Peranteau], Elizabeth [Fannin] and Jesslyn [Duman], were such assets and great leaders. They had such patience with the new players and showed dedication. It will be difficult to replace these girls.”
