May 22, 2018

Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference softball tournament top seed Delmarva Christian High School downed Holly Grove Christian School 10-9 to win the conference championship at the Royals’ home field May 21.

The Royals broke open a scoreless game by scoring six runs in the third inning. Holly Grove of Westover, Md., fought back to score four runs in the fourth and five runs in the sixth inning, chasing Camryn Thompson from the pitching circle. Freshman Erin Parker relieved Thompson and kept the Eagles from delivering more damage at the plate.

The Royals scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take back the lead. Camryn Breasure singled with one out and scored on a two-out double from Gracie Fetterman. Jordyn DiFava followed with a double to score Fetterman. Kandice Schlabach then singled to score DiFava to tie the game. Royals catcher Ashlyn Stonebraker followed with a double to left center field to score Schlabach with the winning RBI. Parker then retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to secure the second consecutive conference tournament title for Delmarva Christian.

Breasure delivered a single and double for the Royals and picked up an RBI, while Schlabach had two singles with an RBI. Stonebraker tallied three RBIs on a double and a walk, while DiFava slammed a double, walked and recorded an RBI.

Thompson struck out five Eagles batters, while Parker struck out two and picked up the win in relief.

"This is an amazing group of young women, and God has blessed them with gifts and talents,” said Royals head coach Keith Stonebraker. “That was the message before the game. Play first to honor and glorify him, and then play for each other and these two seniors who are playing their last game. They did just that. Camryn Thompson was the conference Player of the Year, and she had an off day, but It was awesome to see the team rally around her and fight so hard to find a way to win. I'm proud of them, and so happy to send our seniors out with a second consecutive conference championship."

First-team All-ESIAC members were Cam Thompson, Jordyn DiFava, Ashlyn Stonebraker, Kandice Schlabach and Gracie Fetterman. Siera Jones was named honorable mention. Thompson was ESIAC Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
