Delmarva Christian students prepare for Boys State

June 1, 2017

In preparation for the Delaware American Legion Boys State program to be held Sunday to Thursday, June 11 to 15, Delmarva Christian High School juniors Noah Theis and Ben Little attended this year's County Day along with many other high school boys from throughout Sussex County.

"County Day was beneficial in seeing how local government works, meeting with students in Sussex County with the same interests, and discussing specific problems unique to Sussex County," said Little.

Also present for the event, held in Sussex County Council chambers at the county Administrative Office Building, were council President Mike Vincent and other council members.

"The president of the council commended us for our interest in the importance of local government, and it was nice to see how excited he was that students are getting involved," said Theis.

The students were separated into groups and participated in mock county council sessions where they where presented with different problems, scenarios, bills, and proposals, and were asked to approve, reject or provide alternative solutions.

Delmarva Christian's Theis and Little look forward to attending Boys State where they will learn about state government, and how to understand and appreciate basic principles involved in the successful management of a democratic society.
