Delmarva Rugby U19 wins first two games

March 29, 2017

Delmarva Rugby Club's U19 team played its first games March 25 in Alapocas Park in Wilmington.

Surprising many people at the event, the U19 team won its first game against Archmere Academy's B side. The first half was a learning experience for many of the players, as they fell behind by 15 points. Adjustments at halftime allowed Delmarva to change the momentum. Scores by Jamiere Sample and Rob Van Pelt tightened the score to 15-10. Malik Brewer was able to step into a passing lane as time expired and run 60 meters for the tying score. Van Pelt converted the points after, and Delmarva was able to walk away with a stunning 17-15 win.

The second game of the day was against another newly formed team, Saint Mark’s. It was not as close, as Delmarva was able to score five tries and convert on three of them for a 31-0 win.

Team Captain Hunter Severs said of the day, "It was very exciting to finally get out on the pitch and play a game. Everyone contributed and played hard. We want to thank Saint Mark’s, Archmere and all of the other teams that were at the tournament for a great day of rugby."

Anyone interested in joining the team can reach out to Tom Colucci at 302-930-1003. All players are welcome. Experience is not necessary.
