Don Flood speaking truth to power

February 7, 2017

As a Cape Gazette subscriber and retired educator, I was heartened to read the recent columns by Don Flood, and I join others who have written to express their support. His analysis of the (apparently) impending repeal of the Affordable Care Act was cogent and empathetic. I look forward to future columns, in particular on the state of public education as billionaire Betsy DeVos, with no experience in public education whatsoever, prepares to become secretary of education.

I would also appreciate Don Flood's thoughts on the dismantling of the Environmental Protection Agency under the leadership of Scott Pruitt, whose claim to fame to date has been to bring suit against that very agency, whose mission is to assure clean air and water for everyone.

As the Trump administration speeds the transformation of U.S. democracy to an oligarchy, and ramps up the unbridled flow of wealth to the top 1 percent, voices such as Don's can prove sobering for us all. Trump's spokesperson tells us we live in a reality where there are "alternative facts." Don, please channel George Orwell and speak truth to power.
