Donald Penuel, Showell Farms retiree

Donald Penuel, 87, of Dagsboro passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Renaissance Center in Millsboro.

He was born Feb. 10, 1929 ,in Frankford to the late Coard and Ruth Hudson Penuel. After high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served with the 452nd Armored Field Artillery BTN. He married his sweetheart, Genevieve, and together they raised three children. He retired from Showell Farms as an inspector.
He loved word searches, taking drives and rabbit hunting. He enjoyed socializing and visiting friends, and was devoted to his family. He was a private man, and very polite. He loved sweets, and, knew exactly when the fresh Tastee-cakes were delivered. He had to get there early to get the best stuff before it was picked over.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his beloved wife Genevieve in 2013; and a son, Jack "Rick" Donaway, in 2010. He is survived by his daughters: Sherry Ann Hudson and husband Lin of Dagsboro; and Dawn Truitt and her husband Mike of Selbyville. He is also survived by a sister: Ruth Ann Moore and her companion, Jack. Donald also leaves his beloved grandchildren: Brandon Donaway (Holly); Chad Hudson (Megan); Shane Truitt (Michelle); Jennah Truitt; and seven great-grandchildren: Collin; Rylee; Kyle; Logan; Makenzie; Jaxon; and Lanie. Also surviving are many extended family members and many friends.

A chapel committal service will be held at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Friday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m., at 26669 Patriot Way, Millsboro. Pastor Chuck Reynolds will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Vitas Hospice; 100 Commerce Drive; Newark, DE 19713; or the Delaware Veteran's Home, 100 Patriot Way, Milford, DE 19963.
