Doris Louella Pritchett, touched many lives

July 14, 2017

Doris Louella Pritchett, 85, of Milford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and her pastor, Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Milford Memorial Hospital.

Louella was born in Milford, daughter of the late Wilbert Layton and Dorothy (Brittingham) Coverdale, and spent her 85 years touching the lives of her family, friends, and all those whom she came into contact with over the years.

Louella was a loving wife and mother who dedicated herself to raising four children while working as a bookkeeper in their family business, Pritchett's Auto Repair. Her family was a huge part of her life, and her suggestions and support were always at the ready.

Family, friends and acquaintances found joy in being in her home laughing, chatting and enjoying her wonderful cooking. There was no such thing as a stranger in her home.

Cooking for others was indeed one of her passions in life, especially for weekly family dinners. Louella also enjoyed traveling the United States extensively and was proud to say she had seen the beauty and majesty of all the states but Alaska.

Louella was very active in the church and served in many capacities over the years, such as leading children's programs, singing in the choir, and helping with her class record keeping. Louella was an active member of the Milford Church of the Nazarene, and enjoyed attending until her health no longer allowed her to do so.

In addition to her parents, Louella is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Pritchett; a son, Lennard L. Pritchett; and a sister, Gladys Marie.

She is survived by three children; Frederick Pritchett and wife Karen, Carolyn Lazar and husband Ronald, all of Milford, and Robert Pritchett of Frederica. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Theresa Pritchett, Elizabeth Carroll and husband John, Leanne Garrett and husband Michael, Layton Pritchett and Garren Lazar; and great grandchildren, Tyler Garrett, Hayden Garrett, Aolie Watt, Evan Carroll, Paige Thompson, Brianna Thompson, and Kenley Elzey.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford. Friends may also call Tuesday, July 18, from noon to 1 p.m., prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service, at the Milford Church of the Nazarene, 11 Salevan Place, Milford. Burial will immediately follow the service in Milford Community Cemetery, adjacent to the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Louella's memory can be made to the Milford Church of the Nazarene, or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
