Dr. Dale Sutherland joins Orthopaedic Associates of Southern Delaware

September 5, 2017

Orthopaedic Associates of Southern Delaware welcomes Dr. Dale Sutherland to its continually expanding Lewes-based orthopaedic practice. With the addition of Sutherland, OASD has developed into a robust 12-provider multi-specialist group.

"I am excited about our practice's continued growth as we continue to welcome new physicians to our team," said Dr. Gita Pillai, OASD president. "Our multi-specialty practice is committed to providing the best orthopaedic care to the families of Lewes, the surrounding communities, as well as our year-round visitors. Dr. Sutherland brings 24 years of experience practicing medicine independently, most recently in Sussex County."

Sutherland has been practicing in Lewes since 2007. As a board-certified anesthesiologist practicing pain management, he will be a tremendous asset to the practice. His interventional pain solutions are designed to help patients successfully manage their acute or chronic pain, to restore function and assist with reducing pain associated with day-to-day activity.

Originally from the Midwest, Sutherland obtained his bachelor of science degree in biology with highest honors from Creighton University. Immediately following, he attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska's College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in anesthesiology and a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at Yale University. Early on, he served in the U.S. military for nine years as a major in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps. He is licensed and has been employed in multiple states across the country, having worked as an anesthesiologist in Illinois, Nebraska, California, Mississippi and Delaware.

He also enjoys teaching and was named Professor of the Year while at the University of Mississippi. He continues to teach at medical conferences throughout the world. In Sussex County, he has served as a director of cardiac anesthesia and director of pain management, and he managed his own privately owned pain management practice.

His free time is spent with his family, traveling, biking, working out and playing rugby.

Sutherland will treat patients at 17005 Old Orchard Road in Lewes. For more information or to set up an appointment, call 302-644-3311 or go to www.delawarebonedocs.com.
