August 10, 2017

No, they weren’t using rods and reels, bloodworms or lures, but it was a fishing tournament just the same.

Members of the Eastern Sussex Chapter of Ducks Unlimited had a first-of-its-kind indoor fishing tournament July 21 at Irish Eyes in Lewes. Winners and second and third-place finishers were selected in the billfish, tuna, striper and flounder divisions. Top prizes included guns and a custom corn-hole set. Attendance of 180 people made it the largest Ducks Unlimited indoor fishing tournament in the country.

Proceeds of approximately $8,500 will be used to support statewide conservation efforts including wetlands and habitat restoration. Ducks Unlimited Delaware in the past five months has five projects with 590 acres conserved. DU has invested $453,112 in these projects including Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Ted Harvey Impoundment in Little Creek and a freshwater wetland complex in Milford Neck.

Committee members included Jordan Betts, Will Emmert, Fletcher Kenton, Mike Bateman, Ben Vaughn, Mark Layton, Jason King, Sean Brooks, Nick Sharp and Jamie King.
