DuPont chair Breen to keynote 2017 State Chamber Dinner Jan. 9

January 2, 2017

The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its 180th Annual Dinner Monday, Jan. 9, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront beginning at 4:45 p.m. Edward D. Breen, chair of the board and chief executive officer of DuPont, will be the keynote speaker for the event.

Breen joined the DuPont board of directors in February 2015 and assumed his current role the following November. Previously, he served as chairman and CEO of Tyco International plc ("Tyco"), transforming Tyco into a strong market leader, and reviving the company from near bankruptcy and rebuilding its brand and credibility. He oversaw a successful restructuring, including divesting non-core operations and the spin-offs of Covidien, TE Connectivity, ADT Corporation and the merger of Tyco Flow Control with Pentair.

Prior to Tyco, Breen held several senior management positions at Motorola from 2000-02, including president and chief operating officer. He is credited with instituting cost management programs that made Motorola more efficient and effective, and led it back to profitability. From December 1997 to January 2000, he served as chairman, president and chief executive officer of General Instrument Corporation, capping a 22-year career with the company during which he created significant long-term shareholder value by driving a revenue growth strategy.

Currently, Breen serves as lead independent director of Comcast Corporation. He also serves as a member of the advisory board of New Mountain Capital LLC, a private equity firm. MBreen has been awarded numerous governance awards including being named one of the "100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics" by Ethisphere.

The Annual Dinner is the largest of the state chamber's annual events, drawing over 900 business leaders, dignitaries and elected officials. The evening's program also will include the presentation of the Josiah Marvel Cup Award in honor of the memory of Josiah Marvel, who reorganized and was the first president of the modern-day state chamber.
