Edna Ellen Duddy, family matriarch

January 19, 2017

Edna Ellen Duddy, 67, of Laurel, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at her home. She was born in Clifton, N.C., Friday, Sept. 16, 1949, daughter of the late Floyd Jones and Margaret (Richardson) Jones.

Mrs. Duddy was a graduate of Mardela High School. She worked for several years at Mountaire and Reeses hatcheries in Laurel, and for Penisula Nursery in Selbyville. Mrs. Duddy loved working outdoors; landscaping and flower gardening were among her favorite things to do. She also enjoyed the beach, fishing, crabbing and singing. She never missed an episode of her TV shows, especially Homicide Hunter, Joe Kenda. Her true passion, however, was being a full time mother and grandmother. She was the true matriarch of her family, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Duddy was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Downs II; her brother, James Osborn; and her sister, Mary Lewis. She is survived by her sons: Joseph Richardson (Joseph Pastic) of Laurel, and Paul Downs (Lori) of Salisbury, Md.; her daughters: Michelle Haldeman (Brian) of Seaford, Amy Duddy (Jason Wharton) of Salisbury, and Heather Dillard of Laurel; her brothers: Jackie McCullough of Accomack, Va., and Michael McCullough (Arlene) of Accomack; her sisters: Shearby Shrewsbury (Abner) of Stephenson, W.Va., Linda Wilkerson (Burt) of Midway, W.Va., and Margaret Ennis (Randy) of Parsonsburg, Md.; her grandchildren: Brian Haldeman, Danielle Haldeman, Jena Haldeman, Kyle Downs, Chris Vance, Kara Downs, Lavadi Castel, Shawn Jones, Makala Duddy, Jetta Wharton, Keegan Castel, and Taylor Dillard; her great-grandchildren: Nevaeh Haldeman, Kelsey Haldeman, and Bailee Haldeman; and her beloved dog, Buddy.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the services at Henlopen Memorial Park, 28787 Lockerman Road, Milton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parsell Funeral Homes, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958 to help defray funeral expenses.
