Elaine Buchow Orr, chemist, community activist

Elaine Dorothy Buchow Orr, mother, grandmother, chemist, nonprofit leader and friend to many passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, after a brief illness. She was born March 4, 1945.

She is survived by her sons Gustav A. B. Orr III and his husband Joseph M. Paprzycki, and Jacob W. Orr, his wife Jacqulyn and their children Gabby, Miciah, Aubrie and Brogan. She was also great-grandmother to Ellie Paprzycki.

She began her career as a chemist where she worked for the General Electric Space Center. Elaine was one of the founders of the Historic Yellow Springs Inc., where she served as president of the board multiple times. She also founded the Yellow Springs Art Show in Chester Springs, Pa.. now in its 44th year.

She was also active in many New York charities including the Central Park Zoo, Mid-Atlantic Jack Rescue, the American Museum of Natural History, and served as a former board member of the Volunteer Referral Center. She travelled the world and was a great friend to many in Pennsylvania, New York City and Milton, where she lived at the time of her passing.
