Ernest E. Megee III, owner Megee Plumbing
Ernest E. Megee III, 77, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, after a brief illness Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Christiana Medical Center, Wilmington.
Ernie was born in Lewes, son of the late Ernest E. Jr., and Arnelda (Ellis) Megee.
Ernie was the owner and operator of Megee Plumbing and Heating in Georgetown, a family business that began in 1936.
Ernie was a graduate of Georgetown High School class of 1959, and met with his classmates on a monthly basis. He graduated from Goldey Beacom College with a degree in accounting. He was very involved in numerous community organizations, including: Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 646 since 1991, Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club, where he served as treasurer for the past 30 years, Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, Zoar U.M. Church and Sussex County Stamp Club.
In addition to his parents, Ernest is preceded in death by two infant sons; and a grandson, David Rowe Jr.
He is survived by his loving family that includes his wife of 28 years, Beatrice Mae (Collins) Megee; seven children, Michael Megee and wife Katie, Sharon Megee, David Rowe Sr. and wife Teresa, Melissa Jones and husband Dean, Keith Rowe, Jessica Rowe Macleod, and Linda Rubino and husband Dean; 11 grandchildren, Maxine Megee, Julie Batt, Joshua Megee, Heather Rowe, Krystin Jones, Corey Jones, Ashley Rowe, William Macleod, Murdo Macleod, Elyse Rubino and Christopher Rubino; seven great-grandchildren; a sister Patricia Reimer and husband John; as well as his dachshunds whom he called "his boys," Noah and Max.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Dagsboro Redmen Cemetery.
