ESL program sets multicultural festival May 4

April 25, 2024

The Community English as a Second Language Program hosted by Lutheran Church of Our Savior is celebrating its 20th anniversary year throughout 2024.

A multicultural festival is set for 12 to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 4, at the church in Rehoboth Beach. This free public event will will provide the Sussex County community with the opportunity to experience some traditions of the ESL program’s students.

Talented international artists, including dancers and vocalists, will perform throughout the day. The festival will also offer games, prizes, a roving magician, and other family-friendly activities. Popular local food trucks will be onsite with snacks, meals, desserts, and refreshments available to purchase.

Attendees can also visit with local immigrant-run business representatives, who will offer information about their products and services.

The program began at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in 2004 with two teachers, a few church volunteers and 45 students. Now, more than 40 volunteer teachers throughout the county work with about 150 students a year in curriculums targeted for beginning to advanced English speakers. Classes are now also held at Milford Public Library, Beebe Lewes Campus and online in partnership with Lewes Public Library.
