Exhibition by the Artists' Exchange of Delaware at Rehoboth Art League

Opening reception set Oct. 13
October 7, 2017

On Friday, Oct. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., the Rehoboth Art League will host an opening reception for four new exhibitions. These will include works by the Artists' Exchange of Delaware, photographer Michael Hower, sculptor Joachim Gawryolek, and the Coastal Camera Club.

The Artists' Exchange is a group of professional artists who share a contemporary focus and show their work in the Cape Region and beyond. Their exhibition, "Mixed Metaphors," taking place in the Tubbs and Corkran galleries will include works by all 12 members. These include: Constance Cositgan, Susan Frey, Laura Hickman, Caroline Huff, Michael Krausz, Victor Letonoff, Marti Marino, Nina Mickelsen, Lee Wayne Mills, Aina Nergaard- Nammack, Steve Rogers and Barbara Warden.

Photographer Michael Hower's exhibition, "Abandoned Places," taking place in the Ventures Gallery, is an exploration of environments in man-made structures and landscapes now devoid of human activity. His works convey themes of wear, deterioration, and nature's reclamation of these places. Hower's work has been featured in multiple exhibitions, most recently in "Bigg Shot" and "Bigg Picture," at the Biggs Museum of Art in Dover, and "Exhibition 280," at the Huntington Museum of Art in Huntington W.Va.

"Conversations," a sculpture exhibition by Salisbury University graduate artist Joachim Gawryolek, winner of the Best in Show award at RAL's "Next" exhibition in 2016, will take place in the Tubbs Gallery. "Next" was a juried exhibition of graduating art students from surrounding art schools. Gawryolek is currently pursuing a master's in industrial design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. Rounding out the shows is an exhibition titled "In Our Backyard," by members of the Coastal Camera Club. Images in this juried exhibition represent life in Sussex County. Local artist and member of the Artists' Exchange of Delaware Constance Costigan was the juror for this exhibition.

This exhibition will take place in the Corkran Gallery.

Several of the artists participating in these exhibitions will host a Gallery Talk Saturday, Oct. 14, in the Corkran Gallery. They will discuss the inspiration behind and the processes used in creating their works. All of these exhibitions run through Nov. 12. The RAL is located at 12 Dodds Lane, in Henlopen Acres. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.

The opening reception is free and open to the public, and is generously sponsored by Dogfish Head. The Rehoboth Art League is a membership-based nonprofit arts organization dedicated to teaching, preserving and inspiring the arts in the region.
