Faith-based rally for healthy living set Aug. 5 in Georgetown

July 16, 2017

Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown will host a day of faith, fun, food and fitness as the church's First Place 4 Health group holds its second Delaware Wellness Rally from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5.

The keynote speaker will be First Place 4 Health Chief Operating Officer Lisa Lewis, author of "Healthy Happy Cooking." She is dedicated to bringing people together around the dinner table with healthy, delicious meals that are easy to prepare. Lewis will join other inspirational speakers and friends who desire to encourage, equip and motivate attendees on weight management and a total wellness journey. This event will reinforce not just physical health, but total health via the concept of whole-person wellness - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Breakout sessions cover healthy living, finding a balanced life and how to start a wellness ministry. Participants will hear success stories and learn solutions to common struggles. Between talks, movement minutes will offer safe, fun and effective physical movement for every fitness level.

The event will include healthy refreshments and lunch, exercise anyone can do, and an optional early bird workout at 7:30 a.m., led by Lisa Karnish, a certified fitness instructor.

This is the event for individuals who desire to strengthen their wellness journey, learn more about faith-based weight loss or even start a wellness ministry.

First Place 4 Health is an international Bible-based weight management and balanced living program which began in Texas in 1981. Using a reliable, proven method of weight loss and healthy living, the program continues to grow and has had groups in over 12,000 churches, fitness centers and offices, and in homes across the country.

Karnish started the First Place 4 Health group at Crossroad in 2014 and is now the local networking leader. A retired ICU registered nurse, Karnish is certified as a group fitness instructor with the American Council on Exercise and is studying for the ACE Health Coach Certification.

Cost is $25 for online registration until Thursday, Aug. 3, and $35 at the door. For more information or to register, go to www.firstplace4health.com/events or contact Karnish at 302-519-1391 or lmkarnish@comcast.net.
