Family Promise of Southern Delaware sets informational brunch April 6
Family Promise of Southern Delaware will host Here We Grow Again, its second annual informational brunch, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, April 6, at American Legion Post 28, Millsboro.
The brunch brings together residents, businesses and community organizations to discuss and reflect on the slow but steady and much-needed expansion of homelessness support services in Sussex County.
Funds raised from last year’s brunch were used to hire FPSDE’s first case manager. This year, the chapter will launch and staff a rapid rehousing program in Sussex County. The program will help families experiencing homelessness find housing and other support services in order to exit homelessness and move into permanent housing. The program expansion is made possible in part by federal Housing and Urban Development funds, the first of its kind focused on Sussex County. Money raised from Here we Grow Again will be will be used as part of the match to assist the organization with hiring another case manager.
Family Promise of Southern Delaware’s mission is to help families experiencing homelessness and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response. In 2023, Family Promise of Southern Delaware provided financial support to 143 families in Sussex County to prevent them from becoming homeless. Executive Director Carolyn Ames Kelly, LMSW, said, “This event reminds us of the long journey we’ve experienced in our community regarding combating homelessness. The event is not just about raising funds; it’s about nurturing hope and fostering strength within families facing homelessness.”
