Father’s Day 5K in Rehoboth is always a family-centered race

The 27th annual Father’s Day 5K, setting off from the the head of Wilmington Avenue at the Rehoboth Boardwalk, attracted 303 runners, which also included seven clydesdales and 13 fillies.

There were more spare Parts on the leaderboard than Donovan’s junkyard, with Vaughn Parts, 19, from the Towson Tribe, placing first with a time of 17:37. Cory Parts, 15, finished second in the 14-19 age group in 19:14, while Celia Parts, 17, was first in the female 14-19 group in 23:32 and Chris Parts, 54, placed third in the 50-54 male age group in 23:31.

Martin Rodriguez was second overall in 18:34.

Christine Lloyd, 48, was the first woman to finish, in 20:37, followed by Erin Varano, 36, in 20:52.

Mike Sewell won the male masters race in 18:46, while Meryl Ludwig was first female masters in 22:27. Bennett Brumbley continued to dominate the 9 and under age group with a time of 22:56, followed by Luke Taylor, 8, in his first 5K in 31:48.

A battle in the 9 and under girls’ race saw Shiloh O’Grady, 7, run a time of 33:44, just ahead of Maya Yngve, 8, in 33:50.  

Olivia Montini, 12, was first in the 10-13 category in 22:41, followed by Katie Kuhlman, 11, in 27:40.

“Where were all these 13 and and under runners 27 years ago?” Race Director Tim Bamforth joked.

Nick Weber of Laurel, Md., won the male 14-19 in 18:54.

Steve Eshelman, 23, who works at the New Balance store on Route 1, won his age group 20-24 in 18:52. Keren Rams, 20, a former Cape runner, ran 24:35 to capture first in the 20-24 category.

Male and female winners in 30-34 were Joey Andrisani (19:33) and Abby Andrews (23:27).

Paul Montini, 49, captured the 45-49 age group in 19:35, followed by Chris Stanley in 19:54.

Jackie Quigley was first in 45-49 female in 23:59, followed by Beck Montini in 26:04.

Brandt Chi, 52, won the 50-54 category in 19:00.

Rehoboth Beach local women took the first two places in 55-59 with Margaret Colvin in 24:42 and Nina Smeltzer in 26:39.

Brian Johnston, 61, of Bethany Beach ran 21:46 to win the 60-64 male race.

Jill Extract (28:39) and Mary Andrisani (29:28) were first and second in the female 60-64.

Age-group winners in 70-74 were Tim Abbott (25:14) and Joann Szczepkowski (26:20).

Dollar Bill McArthur was first in 75-79 in 32:20, just ahead of Magic Jack Noel in 36:34.  

Married for over 50 years Marge, 78, and Rich Warshauer, 82, won their age groups in 45:39 and 49:36, respectively.

The triple play Seashore Striders weekend entitled all who completed the trifecta to a jacket.
