Film for Thought to present ‘An Act of Love’ Sept. 5

Chronicles experiences of United Methodist Church Rev. Frank Schaefer
August 22, 2017

Film For Thought will present the 2016 documentary "An Act of Love," at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Lewes library. The film chronicles the experiences of United Methodist Church Rev. Frank Schaefer from officiating at the same-sex marriage of his son through the trial resulting from his act of love.

This act of parental love followed by a trial in the United Methodist Church caused a media firestorm, and brought to the forefront the decades-long movement for LGBTQ equality in the nation’s second-largest Protestant denomination. This gripping and touching documentary plays out like a courtroom drama following the Schaefer family's struggle and the divide in a mainstream church facing cultural shifts.

The film will be followed by a discussion session with the Rev. Dusty Pruitt, pastor of Safe Harbor United Church of Christ, and Glenn Catley, associate pastor of Epworth United Methodist Church.

Film for Thought is a monthly program for films and discussions of topic issues held at 6:30 p.m., the first Tuesday of the month at Lewes Public Library. For more information, contact Kenn Kaye at dezineguy@comcast.net or the Lewes library at 302-645-2733.
