Final design, colors for new H.O. Brittingham approved
The Cape Henlopen school board has unanimously approved the final design and colors for a new H.O. Brittingham Elementary.
TetraTech architect Laurie Grimmelsman said during the board’s Oct. 27 meeting that the colors are reminiscent of Milton’s shipbuilding history.
“It’s a nod to that, but still playful,” she said.
The design is a replica of Love Creek Elementary, the district’s new elementary on Route 24, across from Beacon Middle School.
Grimmelsman said nautical colors were mixed with neutrals in decorating the building. “We put colors in the fabric and kept neutrals on the floor,” she said.
The color scheme changes by class groupings. Greens and blues are the dominant colors for kindergarten and first grade; yellows and blues for second to third grade; and blues, oranges and reds for grades 4 and 5.
A media center has grays and neutrals.
“It’s hard to believe we’ll have two active construction sites soon,” said Brian Bassett, director of administrative services.
