Five Cape athletes sign to play sports at collegiate level

On Monday morning, March 26, the Cape Henlopen High School rotunda welcomed five senior athletes and their families for photos and signing ceremonies, all etching their commitment to a sport and college where success awaits.

Lindsay Monigle will attend West Chester University, a Division II school, where she will play lacrosse for the Golden Rams. Lindsay is also an accomplished field hockey player.

West Chester is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and affiliated with the Division 11 Eastern State Athletic Conference. The Rams are 7-0 this year, coming off a season of 12-5. They are coached by Ginny Martino, a UMass graduate entering her 21st season with West Chester.

Ulysis Slagle has signed with Muhlenberg College, where he will play soccer for the Mules under head coach Sean Topping. Topping has been at the helm since 2002 and has amassed a record of 169-95-30. Muhlenberg is a Division III program that plays in the Centennial Conference. The Mules were 6-8 last fall.

Colleen Donohoe signed to play soccer for the Mounties of Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Pa., a member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Mount Aloysius is a Division III program. Matt Davis has been the women’s coach the last four years with a record of 38-34-3.  The Mounties are coming off a fall season of 12-6-1.

Troy Humphries signed to play soccer with the Pacers at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa. Marywood is a member of the Colonial States Athletic Conference and is a Division III program. The head coaching position is currently vacant. Last fall the team was 8-9.

Kaylie Truitt has signed to attend Lynchburg University in the fall, where she will play field hockey for the Division III Hornets. Lynchburg is a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Hornets were 16-4 in fall 2017. Enza Steele has been the head coach at Lynchburg for 39 years. Steele has been ODAC Coach of the Year 10 times with 568 career victories.
