Foertsch living in alternate universe

April 18, 2017

Mr. Foertsch: Thank you for your opinion on sanctuary cities. I've always said "Hold your friends close, but your enemies closer."
I beg to disagree with your basic premise that sanctuary states are anti-American.

Please read up or become educated however appropriately about the true foundation of the United States of America. As a colony of Britain our land attracted no one that you described - like nice friendly Protestants with "Christian" beliefs? (so wrong!) English speakers (?) (does that include their indentured servants from all over Europe and Africa?) and as far as the "core culture" being upstanding settlers holding on to the old country's law, if I remember from my high school civics class, early America rejected everything about British law, fighting against it to cause a war.

You must be living in an alternate universe if you believe what you wrote in your column.

Our country was founded by indigenous Native Americans first and foremost, just to set the record straight, which you didn’t even mention. Early Colonists who were escaping religious persecution brought non-English speakers, i.e. indentured servants as was the legal practice, and African slaves who spoke French, Spanish and English, to our shores.

Your name is Foertsch. It’s time you need to ask yourself, not “who are we” but “how can I accept who I am.”
