Fourth Annual Bloody Mary Contest will be May 21 at Starboard

May 18, 2017

The Starboard Restaurant is home to the biggest and best bloody mary bar on the Eastern Shore, and it hosts the most epic bloody mary contest on the Delaware coast. The Fourth Annual Bloody Mary Contest is going down in Dewey Beach at the Starboard beginning at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 21.

Participants will experience the most creative, delicious and downright absurd bloody mary building on Bloody Sunday at The Starboard. Five jurors will undertake the task of judging a crazy lineup. Local restaurants and their bartenders will be on hand to compete for the title, the money and, of course, the bragging rights.

Past years have seen everything from bloody marys topped with lobster tails, to whole cheeseburgers and even fried chicken. These are bloodies in full regalia, given the royal treatment and smothered in flavors to savor.

Co-owner Dickey Heidenberger will once again be emceeing the event, and odds are he's going to don his signature red suit as he has in years past. The Starboard team will defend their title for most creative as others come in hopes of taking home the grand prize of $500 for the best overall bloody mary.

Steve "Monty" Montgomery, owner of the Starboard, invites everyone out to take advantage of the before-season vibe. "It's going to be summer before we know it, and these spring traditions are a fun way to enjoy our town before the crowds come out," he said.

After the contest, guests can grab some food, stick around and enjoy the first night of Kristen and Johnny acoustic, happening every Sunday at 9:30 p.m. The following Wednesday, May 24, kicks off Lauralea every Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. These events are all free of charge.
