Sessions offered in Milton and Lewes sites
February 7, 2024

CHEER Inc. is offering classes in English as a Second Language and conversational Spanish language to any Sussex County resident aged 50 and above, free of charge. Learning a new language is a proven way to improve brain plasticity and cognitive health, and can even delay cognitive decline. Classes begin the first week in March.

Participants will receive a free Android Tablet for use in the classes, along with cellular data service through Sunday, June 30. They will also receive a free membership to the CHEER senior activity center good through Tuesday, Dec. 31, and a free subscription to Babbel Language Software through at least June 30.

At Milton CHEER Center, ESL and conversational Spanish classes will both be offered from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning Tuesday, March 12, and continue weekly through June 25.

At Harbour Lights CHEER Center in Lewes, ESL classes and conversational Spanish classes will both be offered from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning Thursday, March 14, and continue weekly through June 27.

Classes will also be offered at the Ocean View and Long Neck CHEER centers, at times to be determined.

Snacks will be available at each class. A big celebration dinner will be held Tuesday, June 25, at the CHEER Community Center in Georgetown.

For more information, go to the CHEER website at cheerde.com/spanish or call 302-854-9500.

The Spanish language program is being funded by a grant from the Delaware Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities.
