Just days after opening the doors to Friendly Flowers’ new spot in Millsboro, Rehoboth Beach resident Josh Fredo was up to his elbows in roses, lilies and loving requests from brand-new customers.

Fredo, who co-owns the business with Joe Kelements, said the flower shop on Route 24 went through about 7,000 roses, more than 400 lilies and 300 deliveries in the days leading up to Valentine's Day.

“We actually did very well for having no advertisements out,” he said. “We had a lot of walk-ins, which actually surprised me.”

The New Jersey native said he first experimented with floral arrangements as a teenager, and found that the work was like therapy.

“I enjoyed it. It was relaxing,” he said. “It can be still, except Valentine's Day.”

Now that the business has conquered its first major holiday, Fredo said he's looking toward the future. The company has been working out of a warehouse in West Rehoboth since May 2016 and hopes to purchase a 4.5-acre property in Ocean View to open a second location and future special-event venue.

“We'll also have our greenhouses there so we can grow our plants and poinsettias to keep our price points down for our clients,” he said.

Friendly Flowers offers an array of gifts, from all-natural soaps and local teas, to jewelry and gift baskets. Fredo said Friendly Flowers also works with charities, hosting fundraisers to benefit groups such as the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation and area cat rescues.

Friendly Flowers also delivers to Millsboro, Ocean View, Bethany Beach, Dagsboro, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Lewes, Milton and Georgetown, and caters to special events across the East Coast.

A grand opening celebration at the Millsboro location at 26582 John J. Williams Hwy. is set for Saturday, March 4. For more, go to www.friendlyflowersfloristsde.com, www.friendlyflowersmillsboro.com, or call 302-316-0027.
