Gallery One October exhibit focuses on trees

October 1, 2016

For their October exhibit, the artists from Gallery One dream of trees. "Tree of Life" by Rina Thaler pays homage to the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. The Tree of Life is a reference to the story of Adam and Eve. Trees are powerful symbosl in the Jewish faith and also represent humans' relationship to nature. Holidays are devoted to trees to remind people to care for the environment and repair the world.

"Trees," Laura Hickman's pastel, captures the glowing sun as it briefly touches the leaves and turns them golden in the late afternoon. "I pass these trees every day. Late one summer afternoon, the ebbing sun gave them their most beautiful moment. I felt blessed to see them in this very dreamy light," said Hickman.

"Trees are a delight to study in every season! I love that fall spotlights the trees in the landscape," says watercolor artist Lesley McCaskill. Her painting "Glorious Fall" is a lively show of colors in the Delaware landscape.

Artist Tara Funk Grim is captivated by the giant tree in her painting "Old Soul." "The old oak tree seemed to take up the entire field. The more I looked at the tree, the more I saw, noticing late-summer greens being replaced by the fiery reds and oranges of fall. The tree glowed in the warm fall sun," says Grim.

On a recent visit to Yosemite National Park, acrylic artist Dale Sheldon marveled at the beauty and grandeur there. "Granite monoliths, proud stately trees, waterfalls, wildlife and rugged vistas everywhere. I joyfully revisit the memory in daydreams," says Sheldon. Her "Stately Trees of Half Dome" acrylic painting captures the magnificent mountains and the blue sky of the west.

Gallery One is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week and is always staffed by one of the artists. The gallery is at 32 Atlantic Ave. in Ocean View. For more information, go to www.galleryonede.com or call 302-537-5055.
