George L. Grise, dearly loved the Lord

August 19, 2017

George L. Grise of Selbyville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Charles J. Grise and Emma Matilda Grise.

He is survived by his wife, June Wilgus Grise; daughters Jamie Evans (Mike), and Betty Sue Pleasanton (Rob); 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his brother Howard Grise; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Grise.

After moving to Delaware, George met and married June Wilgus July 30, 1949, living in Roxana.

From 1945 he was in the Naval Reserve until he served on the Battleship New Jersey in 1951 and was off North Korea.

In 1957 George and his family moved to Salisbury, Md, where he owned and operated a Sunoco Service Station and later began working for the United States Postal Service for 29 years plus. In 1980 George and June moved back to Magnolia Shores, Selbyville. His love for his wife, children and grandchildren made for wonderful memories at holiday gatherings and summer cook-outs where he took plenty of videos and pictures to stop time and share memories.

He was a member of Dagsboro Church of Christ in Dagsboro. He dearly loved the Lord and his church family. Everyone knew him as the candy man. Each Sunday, with pockets full, he would hand out candy to the kids and some adults too.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at noon, at the Dagsboro Church of Christ, 28009 Dagsboro Road, Dagsboro, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Wilgus Cemetery, Roxana.
