Give President Trump a chance

February 20, 2017

To Mr. Sowers: First, you are in dire need of a history lesson. The "2007-08 recession" (as you call it) was initiated by the real estate bubble bursting; a phenomenon that occurred as a result of the mortgage industry crashing, which was caused by federal lending laws and regulations that were enacted by, you guessed it, the Washington elite.

Liberal Democrats enacted laws and policies that forced mortgage lenders to give loans to people who could not afford them, and of course they eventually defaulted. This is only one of the reasons that I support President Trump's assessment of the Washington elite.

Second, you are also in need of a lesson in polemics (the art or practice of disputation). It is not a sound argument to attempt to sully the character and effectiveness of the president by referring to "many polls" and "samples of world opinion," without being specific.

But let's assume that you had cited specific polling information and evidence of world opinion that are against the president, so what? Has the recent election not proven already just how wrong that polls can be? And would an anti-Trump world opinion really be any real surprise?

The president's policies that put "America First" would all but guarantee that result.

Third, you need to learn that it is an extremely flawed practice to make assumptions about your opponent. You stated, "singularly anti-government people like McSwain..." You are mistaken in this assumption, because I am not at all "anti-government." I am anti-idiot. Government has a place, and I am not an anarchist; I recognize that place.

The problem that I have is with the idiots, ensconced within the government, who have passed idiotic laws and regulations that have hurt the people of this country. And yes, to answer your question, I'm sure that I want the president to destroy those regulations. Your mistakes in assumptions continue. You stated that I am, "so willing to give a free pass to crimes that come off of Wall Street."

Mr. Sowers, I am the last person who would ever overlook, "crimes that come off of Wall Street." I am a retired law enforcement officer, and I strongly believe in the enforcement of all the laws that are on the books, even those pertaining to illegal trading, lending, etc.

Lastly your statement, "Trump's own business history is full of black clouds and black deeds which are also easy to find on the internet," is extremely misleading. Tell me, how many times was businessman Donald J. Trump charged with crimes? How many times was he convicted? The answer, of course, is none and none. It would seem that if he was the scoundrel that you infer he is, he would have at least been charged with some crime, at some time in his past.

Also I note that you again failed to be specific and cite sources in your feeble attempt to sully Mr. Trump's reputation. But let's assume that you did cite negative stories regarding Mr. Trump's business dealings. With such extensive business experience, it would be surprising if Mr. Trump did not have his detractors.

The truth is, Mr. Sowers, that you simply do not like the president and his policies, but you do not have enough facts to legitimately impugn his character, or to argue cogently against his policies. This being the case, you have chosen to mount your argument with opinion, false assumptions, false accusations and innuendo. And weak arguments, such as these, always collapse when confronted by truth.

If Mr. Trump fails to keep his promises, if he becomes just another idiot politician, I will be the first one to call him out. For now I, and other reasonable Americans, have chosen to give him a chance. God bless America, and God bless the president as he works to make America great again.
