Happy smiling faces run 12th annual Valentine’s 5K

A dozen roses for the 12th Valentine’s 5K at Cape Henlopen State Park won by Kameron Hartfield, 25, of San Marcos, Texas, in a time of 18:57.

Kameron was chased to the finish line by Lance Fargo, 50, the reigning Clydesdale National Triathlon Champion in 20:35. They were followed by Jaime Cantlon in 20:37, Josh Ford in 20:53, first female Susan Dunn in 21:08, Moiber Rivera in 21:16, Justin Welsh in 21:17, Robert DiNenna in 21:19, Tyler Blades in 21:27 and Kelly Kahovec Tingle in 21:33.

“Where did all these hills come from?” Hartfield joked to race director Tim Bamforth when crossing the finish line. “There must’ve been at least three of them.” 

The event featured 106 participants. The male 9 and under contest featured Bennett Brumbley, 9, winning in 22:54, followed by Christian Rivera, 5, in 34:04.

Leo Hennigan, 70, won his age group in 36:54.

Grandmom Jackie Quigley, 49, was first masters runner in 24:18.

The female 9 and under was won by Avery Mccoy, 7, in 39:37, followed by Abigail Wilson, 8, in 49:11.

Jamie Wollard, 78, won the 70 and over race in 50:46.
