Historic postcard collection donated to Delaware Public Archives

December 1, 2018

State Archivist Stephen Marz welcomed Joseph Boyle and Jane Hood of Lewes to the Delaware Public Archives to recognize their donation of 1,300 Delaware-themed postcards.

Boyle, a longtime collector, visited the DPA a couple of years ago; he met with Marz and the processing staff for a behind-the-scenes tour and was greatly impressed with the operation. After considering other venues that were interested in receiving his extensive collection, which contains many rare postcards from the late 1800s and early 1900s, Boyle decided his collection would be well cared for and be made available to the public by donating all to the DPA.

The Boyle Postcard Collection is currently being processed, and after complete, DPA will release a promotional video highlighting this new collection. To view some of the 1.5 million photographs and 10.4 million DPA documents, go to www.archives.delaware.gov.
