December 17, 2017

Tracy Handy Hilliard, a 1985 graduate of Indian River High School, is excited to share that she serves as the principal of a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. Handy Hilliard is the principal of Centerville Elementary School in Frederick, Md.

The kindergarten through fifth grade school of 1,023 students received the news in December 2016 that they were one of six public schools in the state to be named a Maryland Blue Ribbon School. In late September, she received word that Centerville Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School. Only 342 schools in the nation received this honor.

In November, Hilliard attended a celebratory gala in Washington, D.C. to receive a flag and additional National Blue Ribbon symbols from the U.S. Department of Education.

Hilliard is a 1990 graduate of Delaware State University, a 1997 and 2005 graduate of McDaniel College, and a doctoral candidate at Seton Hall University. She lives in Frederick, Md., with her husband Wayne and her two children, Troy and Taylor Renee' Hilliard.
