Irvin Lee Betts, retired mason

January 12, 2024

Irvin Lee Betts, 83, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, after a very sudden decline in his health. He was ushered to heaven with his family lovingly by his side.

Born April 27, 1940, to Bessie Bell (Issacs) Betts and Clarence Betts, Irvin lived his rambunctious young life in Georgetown with his five siblings along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends nearby.

He attended Georgetown High School and graduated in 1958. Irvin went on to become a master of masonry, spending more than 50 years working in the trade. Many knew of Irvin’s talents laying brick and stone, and his work can be seen at several local businesses and private residences. In fact, Irvin laid all of the bricks for his very first home in 1978. He passed on his knowledge to his sons, Wells and Michael, and spent many afternoons working outside with them as they grew up.

Irvin is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy Betts; his youngest brother, Kenny Betts; and his four children, Wells Betts, Michael Betts, Lisa Albright and Terri Clausen. Irvin also leaves behind eight adoring grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren along with many loyal friends and extended family members.

Irvin is predeceased by his mother and father; his first wife, Martha Rose Evans; his brothers, Elwood and William Betts; sisters, Betty VanAuken and Doris Dorman; and granddaughter, Crystal Betts.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the viewing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with a service from 1 to 2 p.m. Graveside service will immediately follow.
