Isabel Bovard Fancourt, loved and adored

January 9, 2017

Isabel Bovard Fancourt passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, surrounded by love.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Sept. 13, 1923. She was the daughter of George Milton Bovard and Margaret Warren.

Isabel attended Roxboro High School and business school in Philadelphia. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Fancourt; grandson Scott Fancourt Jones; and sister Claire Bovard Thomas. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Marnie Fancourt Fenley and husband Jim, John B. Fancourt and wife Neal, and Walter F. Fancourt III. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Cooper and her husband Tim, Isabel Coyne and her husband John, Evan Fancourt and his wife Jessica, Lucy Fancourt, Walter F. Fancourt IV, Anna De Los Reyes and her husband Lance; and five great-grandchildren: Jacquelyn Cooper, Belle Cooper, Fen Coyne, Morgan Coyne, and Roman De Los Reyes. Isabel is survived by her sister Marie Louise, and many nieces and nephews who loved their Auntie Izzy deeply.

She was a member of many clubs, some of which were the Sedgefield Investment Club, Sedgefield Colony Garden Club and the Sedgefield Study Club.

Isabel was married to Jack who was her love since high school. This relationship was based on a deep love and a life filled with many adventures, some of which she wished she had missed. Jack was a man who did it all, and Isabel was right by his side. He actually named his boat the "Dizzy Izzy" which was a name that held some truth to it.

She was one of the three Bovard sisters who are the heart and soul of our family. They spent every summer in Rehoboth Beach in a house built by their great-grandfather in 1887. These summers with the family provided lasting memories for all of us. The Bovard sisters taught us how to embrace life with love and laughter and hearts that hold us all. Rehoboth Beach remained a second home to Isabel where she was loved and adored by her many friends. She never met a stranger.

As a mother, she taught us how to laugh, how to be silly, and how to shop. She was a woman who deeply loved her children, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was so supportive and giving to all of us as she brightened our world. As a friend once said to me, "She had a laugh and smile and style for days." She was very artistic and a classy broad to boot. Her friends and family loved her amazing wit and way with words.

Isabel as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend, will be missed by so many. She is free - her spirit soars.

We will never be the same as we were before this loss, but are ever so much better for having had something so great to lose.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
