A Greenwood man, who led police on a chase July 14 before crashing, faces more charges after police say they found a safe full of drugs that he threw from his vehicle during the chase.

Brian Holben, 27, has been in Sussex Correctional Institution on $6,500 secured bond since the crash, on felony charges of criminal mischief for $5,000 or more of property damage, disregarding a police officer's signal, driving under the influence, and other charges, said Sgt. India Sturgis of the Delaware State Police.

The next day, she said, police found a safe near Sussex Highway and All-Span Drive, and inside were about 13.09 grams of methamphetamine, about 7.5 grams of crack, 79 baggies containing about .553 grams of suspected heroin, six Suboxone strips, five Alprazolam pills, and drug paraphernalia. Sturgis said a review of video footage showed Holben throwing the safe from his vehicle during the July 14 chase.

Holben now faces felony drug charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance in a tier 2 and tier 1 quantity, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and given a $14,700 unsecured bond for those charges as he remains in DOC custody.
