James Lester Barron, lived generous life

August 10, 2017

James Lester Barron, 68, of Georgetown, lost the fight for his life on the morning of Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, surrounded by his wife of 30 years, five children and siblings.

Born Nov. 15, 1948, in Grove City, Pa., Jim lived each day with joy. With his infectious smile and conviviality, he lit up the room when he entered. He grew up in Grove City with his four siblings Donald, Linda, David and Nancy. Son of Harry and Virginia Barron, Jim had such a passion for life.

Jim graduated from Grove City College in 1970, and quickly enlisted in the Navy to continue his laboratory science career. When he left the Navy in 1976 he found his niche in laboratory management. He spent most of his career as a laboratory director.

During that time he raised five children, Angelyn, Julie, Jessica, Briana and Benjamin. He taught them the valuable lessons including how to make the best pancakes and to never, under any circumstance, run out of cookies, especially Grandma Barron's No Bakes. He excelled in fatherhood by supporting and loving each of his children unconditionally. He was a proud dad and an even more enamored grandfather. His seven grandchildren were the light of his world. When he retired in early 2016 he dedicated his time to volunteering, tinkering and traveling the country to visit his five children and their families.

Jim loved the outdoors and spent many trips camping, hiking and fishing. He loved his family and every moment he could spend with them. He loved to tinker with his toys. He bought his first motorcycle at the age of 16 and for the next 52 years was never without. He had this total enveloping hug that could make even a stranger's day better. He lived a good life. He lived a generous life. His kind heart and loving personality will forever be remembered.

He is survived by his wife Melissa (Lynch) Barron; his four siblings: Donald (Judy) Barron, Linda (John) Sokolovich, David (Beth) Barron, and Nancy (Keith) Morris; his five children: Angelyn (Sam) May, Julie (Chris) Yevchak, Jessica (Matthew) Crompton, Briana (Zachary) O'Brien, Benjamin (Kim) Barron; and finally, his seven beautiful grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m., at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 203 North Bedford St., Georgetown. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Jim's memory to the National Motorcycle Safety Fund (NMSF): 2 Jenner, Suite 150; Irvine, CA 92618, or nmsfund.org .
