James Oliver Tull, active in church

December 1, 2016

On Jan. 8, 1930, James Oliver Tull was presented to Alonzo Lee and Mary Edith Tull for nurturing, developing and training in their Christian home. He was reared along with Milton, William, Rufus, David and Lorenzo Tull. The family was very close and remained so through the years. James and his family were members of Millsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church.

James attended the Friendship Elementary School at Long Neck and Richard Allen School in Georgetown. After school he was employed at Townsend Inc. for 46 years, and drove farm machinery until he retired at age 62.

James served two years in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany the entire time.

Then Melvina Jeannette Jones entered the picture. They had attended elementary school together and met again after James’ military service, and were married Oct. 3, 1955, a union that lasted 61 years. They established a Christian home. They were blessed with one son, Kevin Shawn Tull; two grandsons, Shawn Michael and Kevin Shawn Tull Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Shawn, 9, Michael, 7, Alayah, 7, Amira, 7 months, and Aaron, 5 months.

James was especially gifted in preaching and teaching. He served as chorister, stewardship leader, personal ministry leader, literature evangelist, deacon, head elder, custodian, food bank manager's assistant, and much more. James’ rest from his labors and his enormous contributions remain to bless others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Mary Edith Tull; and three brothers, Milton, William and Lorenzo Tull.

He leaves to cherish his memory two brothers, Rufus Ervin Tull and David Lee Tull; and wife Melvina J. Tull; son Kevin Shawn Tull; grandson Shawn Michael Tull; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends who share unspeakable sorrow and loss.
