Jeannette M. (Piper) Amato, lived life to the fullest

July 14, 2017

Jeannette M. (Piper) Amato passed away at home Tuesday, July 10, 2017. Jeannette (Jan) was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Concord, Mass.

Jan was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She grew up in Chelsea, Mass. Upon graduation, she married Anthony J. Amato, becoming a military wife and mother of four sons.

She lived her life to the fullest, and loved to share stories of her travels and adventures. Jan enjoyed traveling, the beach, snow skiing, sailing, gardening, shuffleboard, collecting "turtles" in forms of jewelry and ornaments; and was especially talented crocheting many beautiful afghan blankets and scarves that she would give as gifts to family and friends or donate to charitable organizations. She was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 5 Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Post 7447. Jan became a baseball fan early in her adult life shuffling "her boys" to baseball practices and games (after a long day of work), cheering them on passionately. She was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan as well. Jan will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Throughout her life, Jan held financial positions with Reichhold Chemicals in Cheswold, Wang Laboratories in Lowell, Mass., and retired from FDIC in Washington, D.C.

Jan was predeceased by her parents, William Piper and Marguerite Beaudoin, and her special aunt, Henrietta Will.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony J. Amato Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Keith E. Amato of Dallas, Texas, Joseph M. Amato (Florence) of Camden, and Stephen P. Amato of Dover; granddaughters Cori Amato, Bailey Amato, Adrienne Amato and Maegan Proctor; great-granddaughter Kirra Zimba; brothers William Piper (Barbara) and Charles Piper (Martha); sisters Louise Jellyman (Richard) and Carol Beaudoin; a host of nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

A prayer service will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, July 21, at Rehoboth VFW Post 7447, 101 State Road, Rehoboth Beach, followed by a celebration of life gathering until 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made in Jan's memory to VFW Post 7447, 101 State Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971; American Legion Post 5, 300 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971; or a charitable organization of your choice.

Burial services will be private.
