Joel L. Hanna, avid sports fan

Joel L. Hanna, 80, of Lewes, formerly of Southampton, Pa., passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at Beebe Healthcare.

Born Oct. 12, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late John Wilson and Lillian (nee Lower) Hanna, he is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rita (nee Schmid) Hanna; his children: Joel Hanna and his wife Elgie McLaughlin of Huntington Valley, Pa., Glenn Hanna and his wife Karen of Ambler, Pa., Gregg Hanna and his wife Bernadette of North Wales, Pa., Debbie Joseph and her husband Frank of Ellendale, and Scott Hanna and his wife Chrissy of Milton; seven grandchildren; his brothers: John Hanna of Kansas, and Bob and Bill Hanna, both of New Jersey; and his sisters: Joan McColl and Binnie Flinn of Pennsylvania.

Joel, owner of Joel Hanna Painting for 30 years, was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the Chatham Run Hunting Club, Southampton Sports Club, where he was instrumental in fundraising for the indoor basketball court, and the William Tennent Sports Booster Club, where he served as president. He was passionate about all Philadelphia sports and could not be torn away from the TV when watching Villanova basketball. He enjoyed going fishing, but he especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Private arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
