Kevin P. Sweeney, expert house painter

Kevin P. Sweeney, 60, passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.

Kevin was born in Wilmington Oct. 20, 1962. He was a longtime member of American Turners, where he played league volleyball (his favorite sport). Kevin was an expert house painter and owned his own painting company. Because of his skill and reputation, he acquired all his customers by word of mouth.

Kevin was happiest when with family and friends in the Creeks End community in Sussex County. He was an avid fisherman and spent many hours at Cape Henlopen State Park fishing pier and Massey’s Landing.

Kevin was predeceased by his younger brother, Michael, in 1999. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Fay Nickerson Sweeney; his mother, Barbara J. Sweeney (Kat); father, James F. Sweeney, brother, Philip W. Sweeney; sister, Kate Sweeney-Simmons (Dave); granddaughter (Princess) Lauren; grandson, Joey Bloothoofd; daughter, Stefanie Desiderio (Tom); son, Joe Bloothoofd (Courtney); aunt, Ginny Jacobs; and best friend Phil Oyerly, as well as several cousins and countless friends.

Kevin never met a stranger.
