Learn about Mars space program Jan. 13 in Lewes

The Overfalls Foundation will present its third installment of the 2016-17 Speaker Presentation Series at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13. This free public event will be hosted at St. Peter's Church Parish Hall, 211 Mulberry St., Lewes.

Gil Kaufman will provide an overview and update of the space program aimed at the planet Mars, including the characteristics of that planet, how far it is from Earth to Mars, the hazards of attempting to go there, and who wants to go and why. He will focus on the technology of the space vehicles that will take the astronauts there and back.

J.G. “Gil” Kaufman has a background of almost 50 years in the aluminum, aircraft and materials information industries, and remains an active consultant in all three areas. Kaufman is a fellow and honorary member of ASTM, and a fellow and life member of ASM International. He has published more than 140 articles, as well as five books, on aluminum alloys and materials data systems, and he teaches Amazing Aircraft at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Kaufman and his wife Ruth reside at Cadbury at Lewes.
