'Lend Me A Tenor' tuning up with Possum Point Players

May 19, 2018

May 15, Possum Point Players set the stage for summer fun with the Ken Ludwig comedy, "Lend Me A Tenor." Scheduled June 8-10, 15-17, the fast-paced comedy features mistaken identity, fast costume changes and at least one rampaging wife on the trail of a meandering husband.

The adult comedy is performed at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2 p.m., Sundays. Tickets are $20 for adults and $19 for seniors and students. Possum Hall Theatre is located at 441 Old Laurel Road., Georgetown. Tickets may be purchased at possumpointplayers.org or by calling 302-856-4560.

The plot follows the ventures and misadventures of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company as it is preparing to welcome the world's most heralded tenor, Tito Morelli, for a one-night performance of "Otello." Morelli, fondly known as Il Stupendo, is tardy in arriving and is suffering from an extreme set of nerves. The company manager and his assistant coddle Tito and dose him to help him relax and prepare to perform.

Unfortunately, they are a bit careless with medication and Tito is doped rather than dosed. When Il Stupendo appears to be Il Morto, everything goes into high gear to find a replacement. A slightly less than enthusiastic pseudo Stupendo is buttoned into costume, wigs get set, females on the prowl make moves on whomever is in an Otello costume and likely to be a world-renowned tenor, and instead of being short a tenor, there might be a plethora of tenors.

Known to leave 'em laughing, Ludwig has created a tale that keeps everyone moving in and outdoors, quickly dodging righteously indignant spouses and stalking benefactors who seem to want their money's worth. Stephen Dow directs "Lend Me A Tenor
