Lewes encouraged to reject outdoor music proposal

March 12, 2024

The following letter was sent to Lewes Mayor and City Council with a copy provided to the Cape Gazette for publication.

For many of us who are harder of hearing, outdoor areas of restaurants provide somewhere we can enjoy a peaceful conversation while dining. Only there can we avoid struggling to compete with the chattering and music that are so often found inside. Please do not take this quiet refuge away from us.

Patrons who feel compelled to listen to music while dining can always continue to choose indoor seating. Alternatively, outdoor dining with music is provided at several restaurants just outside Lewes city limits.

Please respect and maintain Lewes’ core value of quiet nights by keeping unnecessary outdoor noise at a minimum.
