Lewes farmers market to show customer appreciation Nov. 4

November 1, 2023

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will celebrate Customer Appreciation Day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at Lewes Elementary School parking lot, 820 Savannah Road.

Brownie bites from Old World Breads, gluten-free brownie bites from Grateful Bakery, and Fifer Orchards apple cider will be free to customers at the HLFM info tent, and there will be customer thank-yous from the farmers/producers throughout the market.

Customers looking for fresh local cauliflower, cabbage, lima beans, acorn squash, collard greens, kale, broccoli, butternut squash, peach and apple cider jams will find them all at this week’s fall market.

Thanksgiving turkeys may be ordered from Mahon River Farm or Dittmar Family Farms for pickup at the Nov. 18 market. Nancy James Oysters will be shucking their oh-so-fresh Delaware oysters at market, and offering bags of oysters to take home.

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market is producer-only, so customers are able to buy directly from the farmers who grew the produce.

Dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted in the fall market in order to ensure the safety of customers, vendors and volunteers. Parking is limited, so customers should walk or bike to the market if able. For those who must drive, there is parking in the school bus parking lot, including accessible parking. There is also parking on Savannah Road and Sussex Drive.

The HLFM will wrap up its annual food pantry collection drive at the final two markets of the season, Nov. 11 and 18.

For a list of all vendors, their contact information and whether they take preorders, go to historiclewesfarmersmarket.org. Customers will pick up preorders at the vendor tent in the market.

The market processes payments from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and matches up to $20 per market, per customer. Go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its food pantry purchase program. Market customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk and other food from growers at the market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the market, the items are gathered and given to area food pantries including Epworth United Methodist Church and Casa San Francisco. The market team thanks customers for their generosity.

The market thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2023 HLFM Market Champion, for its continued support, along with all the 2023 sponsors.
