Lewes Senior Activity Center celebrates 4,000th member

Social hub has doubled since 2022; still accepting new members
March 28, 2024

Brenda Ferrante was simply looking to get out more in her new community when she learned about the Lewes Senior Activity Center on Janice Road near the Nassau Bridge. Little did she know she would become the 4,000th member, helping the social hub hit a milestone after doubling in size since 2022.

Overseeing the enormous growth over the last two years has been Executive Director Tricia Fleming.

“It’s been a fabulous experience,” Fleming said. “The center is welcoming, a fun place to be, and I think that draws people here. They are welcomed when they come in, everybody is helpful, and it’s a fun, safe place.”

Fleming noted the expansion has forced staff to add various new fitness classes, including chair yoga. Some people come for one class while others stick around to experience all the center has to offer before heading home.

Ferrante recently moved to Lewes from Fenwick Island and was brought to the center by her neighbor. Fleming believes word-of-mouth recommendations have been the biggest reason membership has doubled since she took over.

In addition to fitness classes, LSAC has expanded its card game offerings to include spades, Italian card games and others.

“With the new members coming in, they bring new, different ideas, so we are trying to accommodate everyone,” Fleming said.
