Library to host ‘Becoming Madame Secretary’ author March 24

March 21, 2024

The Lewes Public Library and Browseabout Books will welcome bestselling historical fiction author Stephanie Dray for a discussion and book signing of her new novel, “Becoming Madame Secretary,” at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 24, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.

Dray will be in conversation with Paul Sparrow, former director of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum.

A captivating  new novel, “Becoming Madame Secretary” centers on American heroine Frances Perkins, FDR’s secretary of labor and the first woman to serve as a cabinet secretary. A driving force behind the New Deal, Perkins rose from humble beginnings to take on a political world dominated by men, facing down the Great Depression as FDR’s most trusted lieutenant. With vicious political attacks mounting and personal tragedies threatening to derail her ambitions, Perkins found herself facing impossible decisions about what she was willing to do, and what she was willing to sacrifice, to help save a nation.
