Lincoln man charged after failing to stop for police

August 31, 2021

A Lincoln man faces charges after police say was driving in the wrong lane of Route 1 Aug. 29 and failed to stop for police.

Kenneth Barlow, 26, was spotted about 10 p.m. driving a Ford Ranger northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 1 near Kitts Hummock Road, said Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Heather Pepper.

A trooper in a fully marked police car attempted to stop the Ford, Pepper said, but it continued traveling in the wrong direction for several minute before stop sticks were used to slow it.

Troopers were eventually able to surround the Ford and stop the vehicle. Police detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Barlow, and he was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, Pepper said.

Barlow was taken to the hospital for treatment and then charged with felony disregarding a police officer’s signal, driving under the influence, and other traffic violations. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $2,400 secured bond.
