Local artist Kathy Buschi to appear at Treasures in Lewes Dec. 16

December 14, 2017

Treasures in Lewes will host artist Kathy Buschi from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16. Buschi, a self-taught folk artist, initially worked with oils on canvas, but now she paints mainly with acrylics on Masonite. Treasures in Lewes has displayed and sold many of her local works since 2013. Anyone who purchases one of her prints may enter for a chance to win a free box of Buschi's notecards.

It was at Christmas 1978 that husband Brendan gave Kathy a set of oil paints and she began painting. The family moved from New York to Virginia in 1980. From there, they moved to New Hampshire where Buschi sold her first painting in 1986. The beauty of New Hampshire originally inspired her to paint idyllic pictures of rural, early American life. In 1996, the Buschi moved to Delaware and began offering prints in 1999. Now she primarily paints pictures of local Delaware scenes, especially Lewes.

Buschi's paintings come alive with people and animals, as family and pets past and present can be found in her work. She includes daughter Jessica as a child, with Phebe and Samantha, the yellow labs Jessica grew up with. The little red-haired girl with the two yellow labs has become Buschi's trademark. Jessica's daughter Ever and twin sons Castor and Wexford can also be found in some recent works.

People all over the world own her prints. She has won awards in places from Vermont to Maryland, but Buschi's greatest reward is when people who view her work say it makes them feel happy.

Treasures is located at 116 Second St., Lewes. For more information, call 302-644-1660 or go to TreasuresInLewes.com.
