LRAC vote was totally appropriate

May 22, 2018

I write in response to a letter to the editor from Ms. Charlotte Hockings, dated May 17. In that letter Ms. Hockings stated, "Every religion, from the Prophet Abraham to Baha'u'llah, believes in only one God; therefore all religions have come from the same source." I observe that this statement, written by Ms. Hockings and printed in this newspaper, is completely incorrect and illogical.

The fact is that there are many polytheistic (more than one god) religions, Hinduism and Mormonism to name only two. Actually, "With the exception of Christianity, Judaism and Islam, most world religions are characterized by polytheism." https://www.reference.com/world-view/examples-polytheistic-religions-caea08081d24e942

Most religions (actually all but one) must logically be classified as false, as they contain contrasting beliefs and teachings, not all of which can possibly be true. This being the case, how could the false religions possibly come from the same source as the true religion?

Regarding Ms. Hockings' last words to those who voted against opening the LRAC to non-Christian groups. She stated, "If you really knew Jesus, you would know all the prophets." I observe that not all "the prophets" are from God. The Bible warns us that, "many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1 John 4:1)

Ms. Hockings had the audacity to question the Christianity of the 23 members who voted "No." However based on the facts, their votes were entirely appropriate. The Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Churches is a Christian organization. It is therefore perfectly understandable, and expected, that they would want to limit their associates to Christian churches.

If any question should be posed, it should be posed to the 14 who voted "Yes" to opening a Christian organization to non-Christians. And that question would be, "What in the world were you people thinking?"
